Meet Mike Kirkton

Deep Family And Local Roots

A Gridley native, Mike Kirkton, and his wife, Janet, raised their five children in our community. They share our values and understand the challenges we face.

Mike graduated from Gridley High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from Illinois State University.

Proud Veteran

Immediately after graduating from high school, Mike Kirkton (LT. Colonel, Ret.) answered the call to service, joining the United States Army. Mike’s wife, Janet, is also a proud veteran.

Mike received his military commission from the New Mexico Military Institute.

During his 25-year military career, Mike led Soldiers in the Gulf War and commanded infantry units at locations throughout the world.

For his distinguished service, Mike was awarded the Bronze Star, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, and Parachutists Badge.

Business Leader And Community Pillar

Mike continued his history of service by representing the 3rd District on the Livingston County Board from 2017- 2022. He served on several committees and was Chairman of the Rules, Legislation, Veterans, and Community Services Committee. Mike was especially active in legislation related to redistricting and the distribution of grants from the American Rescue Plan.

Mike Kirkton also served as the Superintendent for the Illinois State Fair Society Horse Show and was named the United Professional Horseman’s Association - Chapter 10 Horse Show Manager of the Year.

A native of Gridley, Mike Kirkton has dedicated his life to serving our community. He represented the 3rd District on the Livingston County Board and served as Superintendent for the Illinois State Fair Society Horse Show.

Veteran

Mike Kirkton joined the United States Army right after graduating high school and served with distinction for over 25 years. He earned his military commision at the New Mexico Military Institute. Mike and his wife Janet, also a veteran, have five children.
